Arena, Amore, Art, Amarone. The 4 Excellences of Verona start with an A!!
The Arena of Verona, with its 2000 years of history, has shone with music for over 100 years, thanks to the great tenor Giovanni Zenatello. Art and Architecture cross the city, from Roman times to the Middle Ages to the present day, in monuments, churches, castles, museums. Love narrated by Shakespeare, experienced under Juliet's balcony but also in the streets of the ancient city. Finally, Amarone della Valpolicella: an iconic wine from the Veronese lands.
Verona, rich in culture, art, history, is an essential stop on your Italian Grand Tour. Share your reflections with us.
ARENA AND OPERA
Once upon a time there was the Arena, built by the Romans as a place for events, shows, sharing, fighting. Then certainly not abandoned, but not a cultural protagonist of the city.
There is a man, the tenor Giovanni Zenatello, who with his resourcefulness, tenacity, desire to emerge, and a vision truly out of the ordinary, was able to give his beloved Verona a priceless treasure, to be managed and valorised.
The Opera was born in the Arena in 1913, when Zenatello wanted and financed the first Opera performance inside the monument. Since then, it has brightened the seasons of this city, starting with Giuseppe Verdi's epic Aida, still performed today in front of an increasingly curious and international audience.
The first A, the brightest and most powerful.
ART AND ARCHITECTURE
Verona is perhaps not the most important Italian city for absolute symbols of art and architecture, but it is perhaps the only one that offers the visitor a similar evident historical-artistic continuum. Already the main square of the city, Piazza Brà, offers a vision that goes from the Roman walls of the Arena, to the medieval walls of the Scaligeri period, to the Gran Guardia of the seventeenth century with the nineteenth-century Palazzo del Comune, built during the Austrian occupation. Not only that: a short distance away, along the beautiful Via Mazzini, you arrive in the thousand-year-old heart of the city, with the Lion of San Marco commanding the Venetian city from above. Alleys and streets, ancient churches with wonderful paintings; excavations, arches and museums, together with the marvelous Roman Theatre, the Scaligero Castle, Castel San Pietro, make Verona an unmissable Italian destination.
AMORE - LOVE OF ROMEO AND JULIET
Amore, Amore... is perhaps the word that most connects Verona in the international collective imagination, thanks to the drama written by W. Shakespeare, and set in Verona. An engine still in motion, and always strong, capable of exciting and attracting tourists and visitors from all over the world, ready to swear eternal Love. And if the queues under Juliet's balcony are long, and perhaps not very romantic, why not swear these Sentiments on the Castelvecchio bridge, in the streets of the bohemian Veronetta, in the off-the-beaten-path alleys of the historic centre?
But Love is also at the center of every Opera sung in the Arena. And here the circle closes again, further embellishing the city of Verona.
AMARONE
Just look towards the hills north of the city, where Valpolicella links to the Prealps and beautiful Lessinia, to find the fourth A. Amarone, the wine par excellence of these lands. Slightly withered, deep, robust. With purple tones and an inimitable red. Born by chance? Born from genius and intuition? Here we fall back into legend. It takes stories to create a myth, and the vineyards and cellars of Valpolicella, the Veronese wine shops, have done just that. A bottle that has become an icon and an absolute myth. Ambassador of good Italian drinking in the world.
A further element of union for the excellence of this land, where great wines and typical flavors are the ideal completion of visits, stays, cultural and corporate events.
Talking about Verona today means entering a vast territory rich in cultural, natural and entrepreneurial stimuli, which few destinations in the world can offer.
An unmissable destination for an Italian Grand Tour, or for corporate events that want to combine their name with art, history and culture.
